Somatic Therapy for Trauma
Trauma can deeply affect us, often leaving lasting scars on how we view ourselves, how we relate to others, and how we navigate the world. But trauma doesn’t define who you are. You are resilient, and healing from complex trauma is not only possible, but it can be incredibly transformative.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck, that’s completely understandable. The weight of trauma can feel heavy, but it doesn't have to carry on forever. Somatic therapy offers a powerful opportunity to unravel the layers of trauma, release stored patterns and experiences held within the body, and deepen the connection between your mind, body, and soul.
Through our work together, you can begin to heal, reconnect with your authentic self, and create the life you deserve. You are not alone in this process—I'm here to support you every step of the way.
How I Approach Complex Trauma
Complex trauma often arises from repeated or prolonged experiences of emotional, physical, or relational harm. These experiences can shape the way we see ourselves and the world, leaving us feeling disconnected, unsafe, or unsure of our worth. My approach to trauma healing is holistic, recognizing that trauma affects not only the mind but also the body and spirit.
Here’s how I approach complex trauma in therapy:
A Safe, Compassionate Space (this is non-negotiable):
The best foundation for healing is mutual respect and safety, so that is my ultimate goal for our work together. My intention as a therapist is to curate a space where ALL parts of you feel safe, heard, and accepted. As a relational therapist, if this is ever NOT the case, I invite you to bring this up in session. Healing also happens through authentic conversation and action, which is what I hope I can provide to you in the therapeutic space!
Understanding the Impact of Trauma
Together, we’ll explore how your trauma has shaped your emotions, your body, and your relationships. Understanding how these past experiences show up in your life today gives you the tools to begin untangling the complex web of trauma and reframe your story. I will provide resources and education about the impact of trauma on the brain and nervous system along the way.
Honoring Your Protective Parts
When we experience trauma, we often develop parts of ourselves that try to protect us. These might show up as avoidance, numbing, or feeling on edge. In therapy, we don’t push these parts away—we acknowledge them and work to understand their purpose in keeping you safe. Over time, we help these parts integrate into your healing process so you can move forward in a more whole and balanced way.
Somatic Integration: Healing the Body
Trauma is stored in the body, and it can createan array of different symptoms. We will use somatic practices to help you release that tension, reconnect with your body’s wisdom, and process your experiences in a safe and grounded way. By addressing both your mind and body, we can unlock deeper healing that supports your overall well-being.
Healing the Nervous System
If trauma has kept your nervous system in a state of hyper-alertness or shutdown, we’ll work together to gently regulate it. This process helps you return to a place of calm, safety, and presence, so you can experience life more fully and without constant fear or anxiety.
Reconnecting with Your Inner Strength
Trauma can create a sense of disconnection from who you really are, but I believe that inside of you is the wisdom, strength, and resilience to heal. In therapy, we’ll work together to rediscover your authentic self and build self-compassion, so you can live in alignment with your values and reclaim your personal power.
How Therapy for Complex Trauma Leads to Lasting Transformation
Healing from trauma isn’t just about surviving—it’s about thriving. Through our work together, you can expect:
